Project 6

The Houston Ship Channel Bridge is the centerpiece of an overall program to widen the Sam Houston Tollway (East). The bridge provides eight lanes for vehicular traffic and more than 187 feet of vertical clearance for navigation allowing for the future widening and deepening of the channel by the Port of Houston. The 514 foot tall sculpted towers result in a dynamic experience for drivers as they pass under the varying angles of each stay cable.

Bridge Cable Anchor Boxes in a cable-stayed bridge are steel structures located inside the
towers that transfer the massive tension forces
from the bridge deck cables to the pylon's
concrete, support the deck segments, and
provide access for cable tensioning and maintenance. They are crucial for the stability of the bridge, efficiently distributing the load to the pylon structure and ensuring the endurance and protection of the cables from environmental factors.

Detailing Technology Corp was involved in modeling and detailing a series of mock up anchor boxes for the purpose of shop fabrication. Prior to commencing the fabrication of cable anchor boxes, all methods, workmanship, assembly procedures, weld procedures and geometry control measures had to be demonstrated by the applicable fabricator.
